Good to know: Tasmania planning notes for 2027
Tasmania observes Eight Hours Day (its version of Labour Day) in March, and some local council areas hold an additional show holiday, such as the Royal Hobart Show holiday in the south, which doesn’t apply statewide. Tasmania’s official term dates are also generally confirmed a shorter distance in advance than some other states, which is why this site currently lists fewer future years for Tasmania than for other states — we’ll add more years here as soon as they’re officially published. Government school dates are the main reference; Catholic and independent schools in Tasmania may vary. Tasmania calls its pupil-free days Student Free Days, and unlike most other states the Department for Education, Children and Young People sets these dates centrally, so they are the same across Tasmanian government schools.
