2026 long weekends created by these public holidays
A public holiday that falls on a Monday or Friday creates an automatic long weekend. In WA in 2026, that applies to:
- Australia Day — Monday, 26 January 2026
- Labour Day — Monday, 2 March 2026
- Good Friday — Friday, 3 April 2026
- Easter Monday — Monday, 6 April 2026
- ANZAC Day Holiday — Monday, 27 April 2026
- Western Australia Day — Monday, 1 June 2026
- King’s Birthday — Monday, 28 September 2026
- Christmas Day — Friday, 25 December 2026
- Boxing Day Holiday — Monday, 28 December 2026
Public holidays that fall on other weekdays, or on a weekend day itself, don’t create an extra day off on their own, though some come with an additional substitute-day holiday — check the type column above.
How this relates to school holidays
Some of the dates above fall inside a WA school holiday break, and some fall during term instead — which matters for travel pricing and trading hours. See the Western Australia School Holidays 2026 page for the full term dates and holiday breaks, or the state-by-state breakdown of which 2026 public holidays fall inside a school break.
